New French Oak Light House hardwood flooring in the bedroom and adjoining bathroom made a beautiful change to how the bathroom looks. I am already starting to decorate the bathroom for Christmas, but realized there should be a post showing the bathroom with its new solid oak French floor before sharing the holiday decorations.
The new flooring flows seamlessly between the bathroom and the bedroom with no raised door thresholds. Nothing on which to stumble in the middle of the night trips to the bathroom.
BATHROOM
New French Hardwood Flooring
The light oak hardwood floor blends very well with the existing whitewashed solid pine doors and white painted bead board wall under the window. The flooring was prefinished which made the installation super quick. Both the bathroom and bedroom were finished in one day.
The oak flooring is solid 3/4" boards which are at the same level as the existing dark blue tiles in the double vanity sink and tub area. Once again no threshold to transition from the tile to the wood. The prefinished boards have 7-8 layers of sealer which makes them easy to clean and less likely of water damage from damp mopping or a quickly cleaned water splash from a sink or shower. Since the boards are solid 3/4"oak, they can be sanded and refinished as needed in the future.
Small touches of
French style decorate the bathroom.
A collection of blue and white towels, some vintage and some new, hang on the linen closet door. All are from France.
The hand towel embroidered with a bundle of French lavender was purchased years ago from a small shop in Sarlat, France. A cement bundle of flowers on the windowsill is reminiscent of the lavender bundle on the towel.
Several years ago, my sister, a work colleague friend, and I traveled together to France to visit lavender fields in bloom in Provence. We toured the lavender fields, walked among the rows of plants, and even got to meet one of the owners of a commercial lavender farm. Afterwards we lunched in the nearby small town of Roussillon perched high above the lavender fields below. The small carved heart inside the grapevine wreath is one of several hearts I bought in a tiny boutique along a steep narrow road in Roussillon, known as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France.
Check back in a few days for a look at how I switched a few things around in the bathroom and added beautiful touches of deep red Noël decor. The bathroom is the first room in the house to have Christmas added this year. I started early so I can take photos of some of the beautiful things offered in this year's Twelfth Annual French Country Christmas Event coming to my garden shed in December.
