French Country Christmas | Living Room

Both fresh and artificial greenery are primary Christmas decorations for my French Country style home. Built with structural posts and beams, the living room is a vaulted two and a half story space with a soaring cut-limestone fireplace which looks best dressed in understated natural flowers and greenery. 

Artificial greenery on the mantel and faux paperwhites on the coffee table blend well with the fresh white live poinsettias, fresh greenery in a white crown vase, and a small fresh cut tabletop Christmas tree at the end of the fireplace.

Living Room 

I love fresh-cut Noble Fir Christmas trees. The bigger, the better. 

The first Christmas in this house, we hosted my husband's family for Christmas over several days to celebrate finishing our new house. Several members of his family worked on actually building our house. That first Christmas tree was the largest tree I'ver ever had. The tree was over ten feet tall and was taller than the cross beams below the second-story window in this photo. 

However, this Christmas I am way behind my usual decorating schedule. I bought the large white poinsettia, several unseen fresh boxwood wreaths, and the small fresh-cut tabletop tree barely visible at the end of the fireplace the week before Thanksgiving. 

But, decorating the house for Christmas came to a standstill due to a major bathroom remodel that developed snags, more minor, unplanned house repairs, and shipping issues for my annual Christmas shop in my garden shed. 

Nevertheless, I love the Christmas decorations this year with a hand carved wooden horse next to the large white poinsettia plant. No big tree filled with my lifetime collection of beautiful ornaments. 

Natural decor - French style 

Instead, the natural decor has a decidedly understated French style feel perfect for the French Country look I love. 

An added bonus is the poinsettias will still be beautiful after Christmas well into the Winter months. 

The cut fresh evergreens will not last as long as the poinsettia plant, but can be replenished using clippings from the native cedar trees scattered throughout my naturalized wooded areas. 

The faux paperwhites in a French wire basket will also look good through Spring. Just a quick change of pillows on the sofa and putting away the hand painted Noël sign will transition the decor from Christmas. 

A watercolor of snowy evergreen woods will also transition from Christmas decor to late Winter. 

Taking down the small tabletop tree after Christmas will be much easier and quicker than removing Christmas ornaments from a tall, dried out fresh tree.
