The Best Christmas Greenery Idea | Tree Slice As A Wreath

Wednesday, December 9, 2020

The best Christmas greenery idea I have had in decades occurred to me when I thought of cutting a fresh Christmas wreath from a small evergreen tree. A slice from the middle section of a fresh Fraiser fir tree makes an excellent wreath already arranged in a circle.

Best Christmas Greenery Idea is a slice from the tree as a wreath
You can use a tree slice as a wreath on a door or window, but another way to use a wreath is as a base for a greenery arrangement in a beautiful ceramic container. Instead of using the greenery vertically, the tree slice fills a large footed ceramic urn.

Tree Slice As A Wreath

Step 1  Cut the top off 4'-5' tree

Cut the top off a 4'-5' Fraiser fir tree to use as a fresh wreath
Cut the top off a 4'-5' Fraiser fir tree to use as a tabletop tree. This exposes the middle section of the tree with the fullest branches.... below the open airy top branches suitable for hanging a tree topper angel.... and above the scraggly lower branches.

Step 2  Cut a 5"-6" slice of tree

Use a handsaw to cut a section from a small fresh tree to use as a wreath
Use a handsaw to cut a section from the remaining part of the tree.

Cut a tree trunk below a cluster of tree branches that encircle the trunk to make a fresh wreath
Make the cut below a cluster of tree branches that encircle the trunk. Make the cut as level as possible, not at an angle.

A tree slice for a wreath should be a section of the trunk about 5" to 6" long
The tree slice should be a section about 5"-6" long on the trunk. For the thickest wreath, cut so there are is more than one cluster of branches encircling the trunk.

Step 3 Use large plant saucer as insert

Add a large, deep plastic plant saucer to a large ceramic container to place a wreath made from a slice of a tree trunk
Use a large, deep plastic plant saucer as an insert in a large weatherproof container. Fill with water which will keep the greenery hydrated for weeks. Add additional water as needed throughout the holiday season.

Since the branches are still attached to the tree trunk, the branches should not dry out as quickly as branches cut to create Christmas wreaths in the traditional way around a wreath form.

Step 4  Add antique bricks

Add antique bricks beside the urn on the bench to contrast with the urn and greenery to come.

Step 5  Place tree slice into plastic saucer

The rim of a large, deep ceramic flower pot helps stabilize the best ever greenery idea of fresh wreath
Place the tree slice into the plastic saucer. The rim of the container will help stabilize the tree slice wreath. Adjust the tree slice so the branches look the way you want.... that is, rotate the slice until you like how it looks.

Step 6 Add Sugar Pinecones

Add large Sugar pinecones to the top of wreath sliced from the middle section of a small fresh tree
Add large Sugar pinecones to the top of the tree slice wreath. The branches and attached trunk hold the pinecones out of the water. A cluster of horse apples is another natural way to fill the wreath.

Step 7 Add additional Christmas decor

Add a large Merry Christmas sign to the best ever greenery idea for a fresh Christmas wreath
Add a large Merry Christmas message sign to the greenery. Place large lanterns and horse apples on the bench.

Step 8 Save the rest of the tree

Save the bottom of a fresh tree for greenery in floral arrangements, garlands, and Christmas arrangements throughout the house
Place the rest of the tree in a large container of water outside. Use the additional branches for garlands, for floral arrangements, and for sprinkling in Christmas decor throughout the house. Cut fresh branches to replace branches inside that dry out.

Tree  Slice  As  A  Wreath

Could not be easier to arrange! No wiring branches to a wreath form. Could not be easier to keep fresh. Just add water as needed. Traditional wreaths usually have no way of adding fresh water.

Don't you love it when you find a new way to have beautiful Christmas decor on a budget?
