Inspiring Creativity | No. 1

Creativity is within all of us. And there is more than one kind of creativity. Defining creativity is even an exercise in creativity itself since there is more than one aspect to the definition.

Some people may seem naturally creative, but chances are their creativity was inspired and nurtured over the years and flourished as a result. Where and how is creativity inspired and nurtured? One way is by being around people who share their creativity and who explain their creative process.

Thus begins a new series.

Come along to discover a new creative person to you or, if you already know this creative person, to revisit her or his creativity.

And be inspired to be more creative yourself.

Kate writes her blog from her home in England and describes herself as, "a mum, a wife and a career woman who dabbles in many different things and doesn’t necessarily excel at any of them."

Creative ... and modest.

Choosing posts to share from Kate was difficult because I am inspired by everything she publishes. You really must go to her incredible site to read the full post for each photo and to PIN photos. Surely there is a DIY book in her future.

The Cartographer's Guide to Dress Making

Kate dabbles in papercrafts, recipes, reinventions, and interior design. In The Cartographer's Guide to Dress Making, she shares step-by-step instructions for how she made a gift for the new-born daughter of a friend. Follow her detailed explanations to inspire you to make a similar project.

For Matilda.
the world awaits ...

Kate framed the map dress in a shadow box and entitled the dress with "For Matilda. the world awaits ..."

Is this not the best title for a map dress? Such an encouraging message for a girl to be anything, anywhere, anytime. A message that works now in her infancy and will continue to be relevant at every age of her life.

If papercraft is one of your passions, like me, you will spend days reading Kate's collection of papercrafts.

Mum to Harry, Kate instills and nurtures creativity in Harry with original projects they work on hand-in-hand. Together they explore the grand world of imaginative childhood with many fantastic projects born from flights of fancy.

Looking for ideas for summer projects with your children or grandchildren? You will find them at Kate's Creative Space.

Yes, she had me at "three whales on vintage French text." Who would have thought whales and French text would appear together in the same sentence, much less in the same paper project?

Christmas At Home

Christmas is merry for Harry with a North Pole Sorting Office "where every letter sent to Santa from around the world blows in steadily, falling in flurries around Santa's desk and filling his mailbags to overflowing."

Each Christmas Kate usually dresses a "fir lady," a manikin bedecked in fresh greenery. You see similar manikins dressed for the holidays on other sites, including department store windows, but Kate's blog is the first place I saw a Christmas manikin fir lady.

"Small children are inherently so creative and expansive in their thinking that I can't help but believe that if we just spent more time encouraging this and travelling along with their minds, and less time squashing it out of them, we'd quietly change the world?"

Yes, let's quietly change the world one person at a time by encouraging and inspiring others.

Please reach across the pond to visit Kate's Creative Space and leave her a comment. You will discover a world of inspiring creativity.

I am excited to share that more creative souls are scheduled to be featured as Inspiring Creativity bloggers in the coming months.
